Luxury camping the Opal Coast

The Côte d’Opale, or Opal Coast, in the Hauts de France region, offers a variety of landscapes, ranging from beaches and dunes to marshes, cliffs and estuaries. It lies between the coasts of Belgium and Picardy, just opposite the cliffs of South-East England. Both Belgian and English culture have left their mark on the area, making the Opal Coast a lively, welcoming place with a festive atmosphere and rich cuisine! You’re sure to have a fabulous holiday when you stay at our 5-star Les Castels campsite!

Without a doubt, the charms of the Opal Coast include all sorts of different sites for you to explore. For instance, there’s the Site des Deux Caps, comprising the cliffs of Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez, which were both listed as Grand Site de France (Leading French Site) in 1987. And don’t miss the Somme Bay estuary, which covers an area of 72 sq. km and is the largest estuary in Northern France.

If you love the sea, you can’t afford to miss Nausicaa, in Boulogne-Sur-Mer - it’s one of the biggest aquariums in the world! It’s a whole universe dedicated to finding out about the sea and raising awareness of the importance of protecting marine life - and it is sure to fascinate everyone, both young and not so young. Of course, 120 km of beaches means there are also plenty of opportunities to just relax, or enjoy water sports like wind-surfing, kite-surfing and kayaking. There’s something for everyone!

There’s no lack of local specialities, all of which are extremely diverse. On the Opal Coast, eating is a friendly affair, and the locals will be delighted to have you join them at the table to enjoy traditional onion soup, Welsh Rarebit, carbonnade flamande (Flemish beef and beer stew), mussels and chips or Tarte au Maroilles (Maroilles cheese tart)! And to finish, a sweet treat such as a Belgian waffle - sure to take you straight back to when you were a child!
