Luxury camping Ardèche

The Ardèche department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is named after the river that crosses it from West to East. Boasting nature, arts, culture and a cuisine based on local produce, it’s a place where holidaymakers are simply spoilt for choice! The number of sites and activities to discover is only equalled by the number of stories the Ardèche has to tell. When you stay at a 5 star Les Castels campsite in Ardèche, you’ll have a spectacular view across the typical “garrigue” heathland and countryside.

Historic town of Aubenas Historic town of Aubenas

The historic town of Aubenas is the cultural capital of Ardèche. The town centre abounds with unusual, narrow streets, where cafés rub shoulders with cultural heritage.

The castle square is steeped in history: Château d’Aubenas, also known as Château de Montlaur. The castle is a living memory of the town’s long history and bears the marks of the six noble families who lived there from the 14th century until the French Revolution. It was designated a historic monument in1943.

On the square you can also see “La maison aux gargouilles”, a house whose Gothic architecture features stone gargoyles, long blackened with age. This 15th century building was one of the town’s most luxurious residences. There are plenty of other places to discover too! The nearby caves, added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 2014, are absolutely not to be missed!

Get back to nature in the mountains of the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Park, where raw, yet bountiful, nature is combined with the presence of man. With over 4,000 km of walking routes, 16 nature discovery trails, 28 themed museums and other centres and all sorts of outdoor activities, the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Park is the perfect location for a great holiday adventure. The highest point in the Park is the summit of Mont Mézenc, at an altitude of 1,753 metres.

A holiday in the Monts d’Ardèche mountains is all about travelling the little local roads and suddenly coming across a lone hamlet, a mighty river, or even a volcano - amazing sights for all to see and enjoy, whatever their age!

You’ll also be able to explore Vallon Pont d’Arc, a village with a population of around 2,400, where tourists flock to see the fabulous Pont d’Arc, a 54-metre-high natural stone arch over the river Ardèche. It’s the only one of its kind in the world! The Caverne du Pont d’Arc is a replica of the Chauvet cave, offering a voyage into prehistoric times… Truly memorable trips!
