European Heritage Days will take place on the 15th and 16th September 2018. Make the most of your weekend in one of our Les Castels campsites whilst visiting a region in France.
This cultural event is celebrated in about fifty European countries allowing citizens to share and discover a heritage which brings to them, historic and aesthetic values, exceeding their borders.This year, for the 35th event, European Heritage Days will be held under the banner of ” The Art of Sharing “. In France, 17 000 monuments will be opened ! It is the ideal occasion to discover and explore the places you’ve never seen.
A bit of history
The first Heritage Days were launched in France in 1984, due to the initiative of Jack Lang, who, at the time was Minister of Culture. Due to its great success, Jack Lang recommended in 1985 that the project be internationalised. Several countries have now organized similar days: the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Malta, the United Kingdom and also Sweden.
It was in 1991 when the event was officially launched by the Council of Europe “European Heritage Days” and this year, 24 countries will participate.
An important meeting point !
European Heritage Days bring together numerous French people and tourists who take advantage of this opportunity to discover all the wealth of their heritage. Historic monuments, Theater’s, Town Halls, Courts, Banks, Police departments … All regions proudly show their values and the best they have to offer, allowing the public to have access to many sites that are normally closed all year round.
